The move toward clean energy is progressing thanks to innovative improvements in hydrogen power. Fuel is being tested to replace diesel and make shipping much cleaner for the environment.
It takes a lot of energy to haul a ship through the sea, there is increasing number of ships to power as world trade increases. To reduce emissions, much of this energy could be reduced through ships using more efficient design
Hydrogen isn’t the only alternative fuel option as BioFuel made from plant material and animal waste are others. These also have a large arrays of planned use in many other sectors and their sustainable production is not limited thanks to new technology in this area.
Once the hydrogen is produced there are multiple ways it can be used to power the vessels.
It can be combusted in an internal combustion engine. One negatives is that burning anything in air, which consists largely of nitrogen can make some level of nitrogen oxides that are major air pollutants.
The result for shipping emissions depend on a host of factors including regulations to the uptake of other green tech.
And there is a growing body of evidence of how fast the shipping industry could de-carbonise if it set it as an important goal. All in all, good news for our environment.
